Dream Knight Bug Fix (are there versions to a gamejam game?)
Whole bunch of bug fixes and balance changes to make the game more bearable to play. I still really want to make sure I can put in another boss fight and an actual "hub" area to talk to other characters, but we'll see how much time I have tomorrow to do so.
CHANGELOG:
- Omitted pause menu because it stopped working. Probably won't add it back in before the end of gamejam
- Changed controls of Title Screen and cutscenes to not cause confusion or break any cutscenes. Added some more images to help the player learn controls
- Made it so you can save up to 2 specials instead of just 1, and added images to help know when you have a special ready
- 1st Boss fixes:
- Added an extra health drop in the 1st boss fight
- Changed hitbox on the boss's paws so player cannot hurt themselves while the boss is at rest
- Added a tiny knockback when attacking the boss since the boss doesn't get knocked back like normal enemies do. This just helps with the "feeling" of hitting something.
- Fixed up cutscenes so the player cannot accidentally hurt/game over themselves when mashing buttons
- Fixed misc Z order issues with objects appearing over other objects it should not
- Redid a ton of coding to make things more optimal. This is fully backend and cannot be seen but believe me, the game is MUCH more manageable to look at the code now.
KNOWN BUGS:
-I MIGHT have fixed the random dialogue box that appears in 1-1 if you rush through it, but it is hard to check for cause it seems so random
-Dashing and being knocked back against walls still pushes the player in odd places, which I don't think I can fix with how things are coded now.
Thanks everyone who has checked out the game already! I'll give another update tomorrow hopefully with a one or two areas. I made the issue last gamejam where I made a game that would take like 10-20 minutes to play through, and I realize a gamejam game should be more like 3-10 minutes, so I'm going to make sure this doesn't go super long. I'll spend any extra time I have back on polish, like adding in SFX and maybe music.
